🌿 Take Your Yoga Practice Outside: A 5-Step Nature Ritual for Grounding & Reset
Jillian Finkbeiner | OCT 19, 2025
As the season shifts and the air begins to carry a cooler, golden light, your energy shifts too. This is the season of the Metal Element in Energy Medicine Yoga® — the element of breath, clarity, release, and alignment with what no longer serves.
Whether you’re on a blanket outdoors, in easy seat with your dog beside you, or simply beside a window indoors, this 5-step ritual invites you to bring your yoga practice into nature, into your body, into your energy field.
Lay your blanket on the earth (or indoor mat beside a plant or candle). Welcome the ground beneath you as your support.
Constructive Rest / Clear Thigh Points. Lay back with knees bent, feeling the subtle release of groundwork in your body. (This pose has been shown to help nervous system reset via supported stillness.)
Hand on belly + heart. Take three slow, full breaths. Feel the rise of your lungs, calm of your diaphragm, and the invitation of the Metal Element to clear your field.
Sit in Easy Seat, hold your wrist point. This gentle gesture connects the Heart and Pericardium meridians and cultivates compassion, presence, and energetic balance.
Journal. After your body and breath have done the work, allow your pen to move: What do you feel? What energy is shifting? What part of you is being called home?
Spending time in nature, and specifically grounding (touching the earth, sitting outdoors), has been linked to measurable benefits in mental and physical health. For example, a review of research found that exposure to green spaces was associated with improved cognitive function, reduced anxiety and rumination, better sleep quality, and lower blood pressure. Another study on “grounding” or earthing found that contact with the Earth’s surface may support autonomic nervous system balance, decrease inflammation, and boost mood. PubMed Central+1
In essence: your body, breath, and subtle energy system are designed to flow, release, reset — and nature helps catalyze that process.
It’s accessible: no fancy equipment, just intention and your body in nature (or nature-adjacent).
It’s timely: you’re aligning with seasonal energy (Metal Element), so you feel re-centered rather than resisting the changing tides.
It’s holistic: you’re combining posture (body), breath (energy), meridian gesture (subtle system), journaling (mind), and nature (environment) for full-system support.
This weekend (or today), set aside 10–12 minutes, step outside (or open a window, place a blanket near a plant or tree), and follow the steps above.
Let your blanket be your anchor, your breath your guide, your heart your compass, and your journal your witness.
You do not have to wait for a studio. You do not have to wait for perfect conditions. Your energy is ready now.
Nature is inviting you to align.
With love + rhythm,
Jillian
