A 20-Minute Chair Yoga Practice for Gratitude & Nervous System Reset
Jillian Finkbeiner | NOV 24, 2025
As we move through the Thanksgiving season and into the quiet of winter, our bodies and hearts often ask for something softer — something grounding, something nourishing, something that invites us back into presence.
This week’s Mindful Monday practice is a 20-minute Chair Yoga flow centered around gratitude, heart-opening, and nervous system support. It’s accessible for all bodies — beginners, men and women, older adults, those with limited mobility, and anyone needing emotional reset.

Your breath is medicine.
Your body is wise.
Your energy matters. 🌿
This gentle session weaves together:
Ear massage for vagus nerve stimulation
Gratitude breath for heart-mind coherence
Neck & shoulder release
Prayer-to-open heart movement
Side bends & spinal twists
Seated cat-cow
Half sun salutation variations
Gratitude meditation
Soft humming to regulate the nervous system
This practice invites your body to feel supported and your nervous system to feel safe.
Gratitude isn’t just an emotion — it’s a physiological experience.
Practicing gratitude has been shown to:
increase serotonin and dopamine
reduce anxiety & stress
widen emotional perspective
strengthen heart-brain connection
increase resilience & hope
soften internal self-talk
When we pair gratitude with gentle movement, breath, and humming, the effect is amplified — the body shifts from fight-or-flight to rest-and-receive.
Many people — especially men, beginners, seniors, office workers, and those recovering from injury — benefit from a yoga practice that is stable, grounded, and supported.
Chair yoga:
✔ supports balance
✔ protects joints
✔ allows deeper breath access
✔ gently mobilizes the spine
✔ calms the nervous system
✔ is accessible & welcoming
✔ meets every body where it is
In this practice, we use:
gentle breath patterns
soft vocal humming
These tools stimulate the vagus nerve — the body’s main calm-signal pathway.
This is energy medicine through sound and breath.
It doesn’t matter:
if you can’t touch your toes
if it’s been years since you moved
if you’re feeling anxious or heavy
if you’re feeling grateful or tender
if your body is stiff or tired
This practice is not about performance.
It’s about presence.
It’s about letting the body be thanked.
Letting the breath be felt.
Letting the heart be acknowledged.
